Robot wars in recruitment
Dear friend,
I recently attended a recruiter expo in London, where AI was a topic on one of the agendas. Today, I'm going to share some insights and ideas I gained by listening to the speakers.
Firstly, there's an increase in the number of candidates using ChatGPT to write their CVs, motivation letters, and even to answer interview questions. This is presenting a real challenge for everyone in recruiting right now because there's a higher volume of candidates, but the quality is lower. Essentially, what generative AI is doing is simply lowering the bar for job applications.
Just imagine you're looking for an outstanding candidate, and the first thing they do is generate a generic reply. That's the worst thing because, even though they could have been a great candidate, from the recruiter's perspective, they now seem like a lazy individual.
And it gets worse: most people have discovered the "one-click-thousand-application" tools. Yes, they already exist but are not yet mainstream. Essentially, you select the type of role you want to apply for, choose the region, then upload your CV, and it's sent to all these systems. Crazy, isn't it?

Some argue that this happens because many candidates, tired of applying repeatedly without getting any response, feel disillusioned. Well, that’s the nature of the game. Recruiters and companies are notorious for being poor communicators, which is frustrating.
On the other hand, recruitment agencies are starting to use AI to find new customers, from tools capable of scraping hundreds of leads to platforms that allow the personalization of messages on LinkedIn. And now, with the growth of tools that promise you can send thousands of emails per day, things are going to get crazy.
The robot wars are coming, and it’s not some Terminator scenario. In reality, it’s just humans using AI to find a job, to convince someone to promote their job, or to filter job applications.
The key question is: Where is the human touch in all of this?
I'm eager to hear your thoughts on the topic. See you next week.
